Multi-core processing

I'm sure this has been hashed out a number of times here, but I am ready to buy a new Mac, either a MacPro or MacBook Pro. My question is, does PT LE 8 take full (or any) advantage of 8-cores of power on a MacPro? Would less processors running faster (MacBookPro at 3.06) be better than multiple cores at a slower speed (MacPro at 2.6)?
