Question about preamps on the ULN2

Postby 3rdConstruction » Mon, 21 Jun 2010 8:35 pm

Hello, all...

I'm quite interested in the ULN2, partly because of what is said about the quality of the preamps. However, I will be doing more recording from instruments (guitar & synths) than I will with mics. So this has me wondering, if I'm doing direct recordings with instruments, do I still gain any benefit from the ULN2 pres, or are the pres bypassed? Would I be better off considering another unit?
:?
Thanks in advance for any help.

The mic pres and DI inputs are separate signal paths, so your guitars and synths would not be going through the mic pres if you use the DI inputs.

Having the ULN-2 would put you in a great place for when you do want to record with mics, as well as giving you high quality analog I/O for your other sources- plus you have all the DSP and DAW integration our interfaces come with.

Thank you for the clarification. I think I'm still sold on the ULN2 for its quality and the Jensen transformer option. Plus I will want to experiment with how my instruments sound through a DI then through the ULN preamps...

The MIO mixer is just amazing. I don't know what other units you are looking at, but being able to route, mix and process (DSP) the signal in the box however you want is just awesome. I have a 2882, but I hear the ULN-2 pres are just amazing and the unit makes for a great portable audio interface; I'm thinking of maybe getting one myself.
