ValhallaDSP has announced the release of ÜberMod, a unique mutltap delay and modulation plug-in. With up to 32 modulated delay taps, extensive diffusion and overdrive sections, and parallel slow and vibrato LFOs, ÜberMod can be used to create lush dimensional choruses, classic string ensembles, tape and BBD echoes, nonlinear and reverse reverbs, and a bunch of sounds that defy categorization.

Feature List:

True stereo signal path, for maintaining the spatial image of stereo inputs

Delay times that can be synced to tempo, to create modulated delays and nonlinear reverbs at specific beat rates

Unique WIDTH control, that varies the spatial image from mono to stereo to “super-stereo”

Separate parameters for the detune and vibrato oscillators, to have high level control of up to 32 independent LFOs

OverMod control, to turn up modulation depth beyond the bounds of sanity

A high level DEPTH parameter, for quick adjustments to the overall chorus modulation amount

A large number of chorus tap modes (2/4/6/8/16/32 Taps, Dual Ensemble, 16Phase) for dialing in specific chorus, ensemble, and nonlinear reverb sounds

Diffusion section (with adjustable amount, size, mod width and mod depth) for creating delays that smear over time, diffusion choruses, and modulated reverbs

Drive section (with pregain, postgain, and noise gain) for emulating tape saturation & analog delays

Taps menu, for adjusting the spacing, slope, left/right skew, and randomization of the output taps

A simple yet powerful EQ section, for rolling off the high and low frequencies, and switching between bright and dark color modes

SPEED control, to double the delay time and drop the pitch of the signal within the delay buffers

All parameter changes are smoothed to avoid clicks, and to generate tape echo-esque effects — the smoothing time can be adjusted to create a variety of swishing, whooshing boing sounds

Resizable GUI influenced by NASA Human Interface specifications & Swiss School of graphic design — “Minimalist GUI, Maximalist Sound.”

High level controls have dedicated sliders, while the “tweakier” controls are selected via their own panels

Cross platform/DAW preset mechanism, that allows presets to be easily exchanged with other ÜberMod users via text based copy and paste

ÜberMod is available in AU (32/64-bit), VST (32/64-bit) and RTAS plug-in formats, and may be purchased via direct download from ValhallaDSP for $50. A free trial version is also available.

Twisted Tools has released a brand new mutli-effects unit for Native Instruments’ Reaktor 5. Rolodecks is a realtime dynamic, semi-modular multi-effect, made up of six effects. The default Rolodecks effects are the Slicer, Flange, Filter, Delay, Reverb and Ext effects.

Ext (short for external effect), is an assignable effects slot, giving you the ability to insert your own effects and automate them. With the Ext effect slot, you can truly make Rolodecks unique by adding your own flavor. The Ext slot comes with a Stretch inserted from the Twisted Tools effect, Buffeater, but feel free to swap it out for your own.

Additionally, when you purchase Rolodecks Pro, you also get a special version of Rolodecks, called RoloEXT, which gives you six external effects slots and extra modulation options built using the same framework as Rolodecks. Setting up your own unique effects takes no time at all and the possibilities are endless. If you can connect the ins and outs of a simple home stereo, you can easily setup RoloEXT with your favorite Reaktor effects and more.

Rolodecks Features:

Slicer, Reverb, Delay, Filter, Flange and EXT effect

Connect your favorite Reaktor, Hardware or Software effects to the EXT effect slot

On the Mac, Rolodecks requires Native Instruments Reaktor 5, which currently requires OS X 10.5 or 10.6 (latest update, 32/64 Bit), an Intel Core Duo processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a compatible AU, VST or RTAS (Pro Tools 8 and higher) host. Reaktor can also run as a stand-alone application.

Rolodecks is available now as a direct download from Twisted Tools for $49. Rolodecks Pro (Rolodecks + RoloEXT) is $69.00.

The Sound Guy, Inc. has announced the release of Spectral Machine, a frequency-domain plug-in featuring a wide range of unique spectral effects, including Spectral Freeze, Delay Spectral Bands, 3-band Amplitude Modulation, Harmonize and Pitch Quantization.

Unlike time-domain plug-ins such as SFX Machine, Spectral Machine starts by converting the audio into the frequency domain using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). This allows direct access to the signal’s frequency spectrum, enabling a number of effects that simply would not be possible in the time domain, including:

Delay Spectral Bands — Apply separate delays to different spectral bands, with individual control over the amount of feedback in each band!

Spectral Freeze — Click the “Fire” button to freeze the sound, which then decays at different rates for high and low frequencies. Click the “Reset” button to unfreeze.

Sample & Hold — Similar to Spectral Freeze, but it automatically retriggers at a specified interval.

3 AM — A tremolo effect with individual control over the modulation rate and depth in three frequency bands.

3-Band Filter — Precise control over the gain in three user-selected frequency bands.

Spectral Peak/Notch — Lets you boost or attenuate an arbitrarily narrow frequency band around a specified frequency.

Oscillating Peak/Notch — Interesting peak/notch effect with an oscillating center frequency.

Pitch Shift — Frequency-domain transposition with timbre preservation.

Harmonize — Multiple transposition with timbre preservation

Pitch Quantizer — Nudge each note to the nearest semitone, for pitch correction or to create an interesting vocal effect.

Pitch Isolate — Isolates the tonal portion from the rest of the sound.

Sine / Noise — Gives you independent control over the sinusoidal and noise/transient portions of the sound.

Spectral Shapeshifter — Lets you change the shape of vocal formants (spectral envelope) without affecting the pitch.

Vibrato — Frequency-modulates only the sinusoidal component.

Robotization — Changes the pitch to a fixed frequency for a robotic effect.

However, like SFX Machine, Spectral Machine wraps a great deal of power and flexibility inside an easy-to-use interface.

On the Mac, Spectral Machine requires OS X 10.4 or later, a PowerPC or Intel processor, 100 MB of available RAM, 100 MB of hard drive space and a compatible VST or Audio Unit host program. VST to RTAS adapters are not supported.

Spectral Machine is available via direct download from The Sound Guy for $75. A free demo is also available.

www.sfxmachine.com/spectralmachine/

Sugar Bytes today released Turnado, a multi-effect tool crafted especially for massive and real-time audio manipulation, providing countless unique effects, promising sounds unheard of every time you turn it on. Turnado is both hands-on stage performance boost and serious tool for studio perfectionism, giving you direct control of up to 8 different effects at any given time, with a total of 24 effects available.

In the studio, simply dial in your effect from a super-sweet selection of 24 pro-quality algorithms, then mash up your audio content with minimum fuss, quickly adding dynamic variation to your arrangements. Take it to the stage and unleash Turnado’s true power. With instant access to eight effects and immediate control over key parameters, Turnado is guaranteed to cause devastation on the dance floor, shredding beats and crunking breaks to insane proportions.

The idea is simple:

Turn a knob and the effect is on.

Turn the knob further to adjust effect parameters and apply modulations.

Turn the knob down and the effect is off.

With its instantaneous, one-knob, multi-parameter modulation features, Turnado will lay waste to the audio landscape. Giving you the power to crunch, chop, twist, mash and elevate your music to new levels, Turnado will have you creating wicked new sounds that will blow any crowd away.

Unlocking the power of your MIDI controller each effect requires only one knob to control it. Underneath this simplicity lies a matrix of effect parameters and modulation engines, all controlled by the main knob. This control matrix provides serious depth to the plugin and gives you the ability to create original and truly unique effect programs.

If the power of one-knob action still doesn’t rock your boat, the awesome “Dictator” mode will sink your battleship. It allows you to animate all the main knobs and run that animation with just one fader. That’s one fader, controlling up to 8 different effects, with potentially hundreds of parameter changes!

Turnado’s primary focus is on beat manipulation, so you will find lots of loopers, slicers and grain tools in the rack. Alongside these beat-mashing effects are an arsenal of distortions and filters as well as first-class delays and reverbs. With extensive modulation possibilities each effect can produce millions of unbelievable variations that can be morphed and twisted into something new every time you tweak those knobs.

On the Mac, Turnado requires OS X 10.4 or later, a minimum 2 GHz processor, and at least 1 GB of available RAM. Turnado runs as a standalone application or as a 32 or 64-bit VST/AU plugin.

Turnado is available via direct download from Sugar Bytes for $179 / €139. A free trial version is also available.

iZotope has released Stutter Edit, its first collaboration with GRAMMY-nominated composer and electronic musician Brian Transeau (BT). Stutter Edit’s features revolve around an innovative live sampling engine that lets producers, laptop performers and other musicians manipulate audio in real-time.

Stutter Edit slices audio into small fragments and sequences the pieces into razor-sharp rhythmic effects, recreating techniques that once took hours to perfect in the studio. Results can range from jarring to subtle: a melody can be disintegrated into a syncopated rhythmic roll, or a drum hit can be transformed into an arpeggiated scale of pitches. The complex set of tools in Stutter Edit is balanced by an elegant MIDI control scheme, which makes adding effects a completely intuitive process—much like playing an instrument.

In addition to these trademark stutter effects, performers and producers can juggle between a multitude of rhythmic effects including gate, pan, digital distortion, delays and filters. The Generator module creates custom noise sweeps that can be triggered along with stutter effects to build tension and create dynamics, both in live performances and studio arrangements.

“Stutter Edit exists because I wanted to step on stage with a laptop and improvise the complex and musical rhythmic effects that sometimes took me days of trial and error to create,” explains BT. “I’m elated to partner with iZotope and unveil Stutter Edit to the world, and I can’t wait to see what other producers, composers and sound designers will do with this insane new effect. I truly believe this will dramatically change the topography and scope of what is possible with live sound design and remixing.

On the stage, Stutter Edit makes it simple for laptop performers to create improvised remixes that include incredible stutters, fills and build-ups. Stutter Edit’s MIDI-controlled workflow is a perfect complement to performers using Ableton Live for DJ sets. In the studio, musicians can utilize Stutter Edit to add color and transitions to recordings, making arranging with effects all about intuition instead of trial and error.

BT is widely recognized for pioneering the “stutter edit” as a musical technique. He originally designed the Stutter Edit software to help automate his painstaking process for breaking audio into impossibly small fragments and using them for new sound synthesis. Transeau has used various early versions of the Stutter Edit software both in his studio and in live performances for years, but until today these tools have not been available to the public. BT’s Sonik Architects software company was recently acquired by iZotope Inc., who built the technology into a complete product compatible with both PC and Mac OS X platforms and major music production and performance hosts. For more information on BT, visit www.btmusic.com.

On the Mac, Stutter Edit requires OS X v10.5.8 or later, and is Universal Binary for both PowerPC and Intel CPUs. The software plug-in comes in VST, Audio Unit, and Pro Tools 7.4+ (RTAS) flavors. Stutter Edit is compatible with hosts that fully support MIDI routing to audio effects, including Apple Logic, Ableton Live, Pro Tools (7.4+), Steinberg Cubase/Nuendo, Cockos REAPER, and MOTU Digital Performer.

An introductory price of $149 will be available through February 14, 2011. Stutter Edit will have a $249 MSRP thereafter.

New audio software developer Sound Radix has announced Auto-Align, an automatic microphone time alignment plug-in. Auto-Align “listens” to your multi-mic recordings, then automatically measures and compensates for the delay between the microphones. All with sample-accurate precision.

Time-aligning a multi-microphone setup is crucial to achieving a coherent and punchier sound. When recording an instrument with more than one mic, sound tends to reach each microphone at a slightly different time and thus causes some frequencies to cancel out, while other frequencies can build up unnaturally. When distant microphones are used and a delay is desired to preserve a sense of space, Auto-Align can time-place the microphones to better match the close-mic’d source.

Auto-Align is currently available as an Audio Unit plug-in, with VST & RTAS versions coming soon. It requires a PowerPC or Intel Mac, running OS X 10.5 or later.

Audio Damage has announced the availability of Discord3, a comprehensive refresh of their popular Discord series of multi-effects. From subtle ADT effects to completely chaotic granular destruction, and everything in between, Discord3 is a capable and broad-reaching multi-effect plug-in.

The pitch-shifter consists of three separate algorithms: a “vintage” mode (the original Discord algorithm, modeled on the Eventide H910 and H949), a “clean” mode for more modern shifting sounds, and a “granular” mode for experimental effects. Each mode has its strengths, depending on the input material, and Discord3 has a broad palette of capabilities as a result. The P1 and P2 algorithms have full control over the buffer (window) size of the shift effect, for fine tuning the shift to the input signal, or for stranger sound effects. At the extremes of the six-octave shift range, some truly strange aliasing and artifacts can be had with this control.

If you’re looking for a nice, clean diatonic pitch shifter for fine surgery and re-pitching the full program, this may not be for you. Discord3 is a tool for sound design, barberpole shifting delays, and special effects. Think Eno, Visconti, Bowie, or Dirty Mind-era Prince and you’ll be on the right track.

Discord3 Features:

Pitch Shifting — Discord3 contains a pair of shifters with three separate algorithms (Vintage, Clean, and Granular) for different styles of pitch shifting.

Buffer Size Control — The P1 (Vintage) and P2 (Clean) algorithms have a Buffer Size control, from 32 to 2048 samples, for fine-tuning the pitch shifting effect.

Delay — Tempo-synced or free-running delays with feedback, cross-feedback, and a sophisticated bandpass filter.

Modulation — Discord3 has a pair of LFOs that can modulate delay time, pitch shift amount, and filter center frequency.

Shift is a real-time diatonic granular pitch shifting and delay effect. Shift has three independent true stereo delay lines with discrete time, feedback, pan, and volume controls. Each delay line can be set in one of three pitch shifting configurations (Chromatic, Recursive, or Diatonic) and transposed by as much as an octave up or down using both coarse semitone and finely grained cent controls.

In Diatonic mode the accurate and responsive pitch tracker follows any monophonic audio source and tunes the pitch of the delay line harmonies to remain in key and in scale.

Shift‘s echoes can either be synced to the host tempo (expressing delay times as musical subdivisions of a beat, with each echo exactly in time with the host) or in free-time mode (allowing fine tuning of the delay times, up to 2 seconds.)

Each delay line can be modulated using the straightforward Pitch and Time modulation controls, capable of generating a wide range of sounds from subtle detuning to extreme audio mangling.

True independent stereo processing means that left and right channel separation is preserved. Shift is also capable or running in mono, or even mono to stereo.

With optimized audio algorithms that won’t overload your processor, rock-solid stability, and easy integration with any MIDI hardware controller, Shift is ideal for live work. With a simple and intuitive interface, flexible Bank and Program management, and total parameter automation, Shift fits right into your studio environment.

Shift is available in Audio Unit, VST plugin, RTAS for Pro Tools 7 and above, and Standalone application formats. The Mac version requires OS X 10.4 or later, an Intel processor 1.0Ghz, or above, with SSE, or PPC based processor 1.0Ghz, or above, and 512 MB RAM.

This Harmonized Pad audio demo uses Shift to add chromatic harmonies to a monophonic pad. First we have the dry synth pad sound. Then the pad is routed through Shift which creates a Major chord by adding harmonies at 4, 7, and 12 semitones. Finally, we create Minor chords by adding chromatic harmonies at 3, 7, and 12 semitones.

An evaluation is available for free download, with the following limitations:

User created Program and Bank configurations can be saved, but not loaded.

Output will be periodically interrupted, approximately every minute, by a short moment of silence.

Audio output will stop after 30 minutes of continuous use. The only way to continue using Shift is to restart the application.

Purchasing a licence will remove these evaluation limitations. Shift is available as a direct download from Loomer for £35.00 (currently around $59 US).
